Britain's American Air Museum seeks help identifying US personnel who served in UK
The American Air Museum, which is part of Britain's Imperial War Museum, has launched a new wiki-style website designed to allow members of the public to help identify the service men and women depicted in the site's online galleries. Based on 15,000 prints from The Roger Freeman Collection documenting the lives of the US Army Air Forces personnel who served in England during the Second World War, the site records the thoughts and memories of the local population who worked and lived alongside them.

Dear veterans, it looks very ridiculous, but photo depicts officers somewhere in Russia. Bulk of officers are in uniform of Soviet Army (after 1943). Only three of them are in USAF uniform. Probably this picture was shot somewhere in east part of Soviet Union (close to Alaska) where the transfer of military airplane was organized from USA to USSR. But, from other hand, the airplane is very similar to soviet bomber Pe-2. In this case, this picture could be shot (for example) somewhere in defeated Germany. Not in UK.

Date: 13 October 2014 13:32 (UTC)
